Posted by on Tuesday, 17 January, 2012

Barbara and Victor Calaba, Team Fox members from New Canaan, CT, are hosting their first Team Fox event on Saturday, February 4. “Play for Parkinson’s” is a night of round robin tennis with food, cocktails and a silent auction.  They set a goal of $25,000 and have already raised more than $10,500.

The Calabas were inspired to join Team Fox to honor Barbara’s father, who has been living with Parkinson’s disease for the past 10 years. They hope to make “Play for Parkinson’s” an annual event.

The 1,000-Mile Marathon

Posted by on Friday, 13 January, 2012

Last year, we introduced you to Team Fox member James Mangini. He is the president of Sweet Angel Gifts, an online gift company that runs regular promotions to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation. These promotions are ongoing, but James wanted to do even more as a Team Fox member.

To him, that means running from Charleston, SC, to New York, NY, in 30 days—a total of 1,000 miles. In honor of his father, James hopes to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research along much of the east coast.

1000-Mile Marathon

The journey begins on May 1, 2012. Until then, James is busy training and planning a number of events along the route. Click here to learn more about this endeavor and how you can get involved!

Team Fox Athletes Head to 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials

Posted by on Monday, 9 January, 2012

Team Fox member Kyle Shackleton ran with his twin brother, Drew, in the 2009 Chicago Marathon to raise funds for Parkinson’s disease and to honor their grandfather, who has PD. Together, they raised $25,000 towards the Foundation’s efforts to speed a cure.  Running towards a cure is a family affair for the Shackletons, as their sister Megan is also a Team Fox member and marathon runner and their father Woody is MJFF’s Board of Directors Chairman.

But the twins didn’t stop with the Chicago marathon — on January 14th they’ll be competing in the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. Check out the following interview with Kyle to find out what an average day looks like for this marathon runner: http://runnersfeed.com/kyle-shackletons-qualifying-story-raised-25000/#more-9825.

A Chiropractor for a Cure

Posted by on Monday, 9 January, 2012

Dr. Lawrence Zlot (“Dr. Z”) is a chiropractor and one of our newest Team Fox members. He recently opened his own practice in Beverly Hills, CA, called Z Wellness & Pain Center – and there’s a twist. A portion of his new patient first visit fees will be donated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. He was inspired to add this charity component after treating a Parkinson’s patient in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Z recalls, “In my years of practice, I have never met anyone so committed to their health. So ready to face the challenges of life. So determined to staying positive.”

That determination and positive attitude inspires Dr. Z every day, and has helped him establish a philanthropic business. Visit Dr. Z’s Team Fox page or go to www.ZWellnessAndPain.com to learn more.

"Just by becoming a patient at Z Wellness & Pain Center, you will help to support an important cause. It's as simple as that." -Dr. Z
