Sam Fox’s Run — 42 Miles a Day for Two Months

Posted by on Friday, 9 December, 2011
Chris Holt of the San Francisco Chronicle has been following Sam Fox’s epic journey (undertaken from July to October 2011) to raise funds and awareness for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. If you aren’t familiar with the story, Sam (no relation to Michael J. Fox) came up with the completely nutso idea of running the entire length of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail in 65 days or less in honor of his mother, Lucy, who was diagnosed with the disease seven years ago. The Foundation has had its collective socks knocked off by Sam’s courage, perseverance and ingenuity, not to mention his prodigious athletic gifts; we’ve also loved getting to know Lucy and Sam’s friends and supporters including his girlfriend, Chloe, Team Awesome (who supported him on the trail) and Marion Mauran, the documentary filmmaker following Sam around with a camera.

This week Chris published a new Q&A with Sam. A few memorable excerpts: Continue reading “Sam Fox’s Run — 42 Miles a Day for Two Months” »

Rob Cornell Runs NYC Marathon for Team Fox – Again!

Posted by on Thursday, 3 November, 2011

Rob Cornell will take on his 2nd NYC Marathon for Team Fox, hoping to break both his time goal from last year (3:43:03) and his fundraising goal of over $3000.  His inspiration to run comes straight from Michael.  Rob, who’s a Hamilton College alum, recently told Radio Free Hamilton

I actually joined the Fox Foundation after reading Michael J. Fox’s incredible story. He’s a extremely modest man who hasn’t let this disease change the way he lives. He’s determined to fight it and find a cure not just for himself, but for the 60,000 people that will be diagnosed with PD this year alone. It’s one of those incurable diseases that no one talks about or even really knows anything about. I can’t say that I knew much about it prior to reading his books. But now that I am aware of it, I just wanted to try and help anyway I could.

On Saturday October 15th, Team Fox member Anna Wistran Wolfe hosted the 5th Annual North Shore Walk for PD. They’ve raised over $15,000! The 3-mile route was from the First Church on Monument Avenue, along the ocean boardwalk on Lynn Shore Drive to the Lynn/Nahant rotary and back.

The North Shore Walk for Parkinson’s Disease was started by the Wistran family of Swampscott in honor of Dr. Daniel Wistran, who has been battling Parkinson Disease since 1997.
